During the pre-paint process it will allow you to see such things as pinholes and sand scratches. During the paint process you can check coverage of your paint which in itself could save thousands of dollars in repaints. I purchased my 3M sun gun color matching light about three weeks ago. I want to say that I love it!! It's already saved me a couple of times with just color matching. I use PPG's color variant deck and the sun gun helps me choose the correct color variant. I also use it in the booth between coats of base to check for color coverage. That saved my butt the very first time I used it because I thought I had the base covered but I put the light on it and was able to clearly see that it wasn't. I find that my 3m sun gun is as much of an asset as my spraygun.
