POR-15 Rust prevention paint is a finish like no other paint or coating you may have used in the past. Por-15 is a high tech, high quality, high performance rust preventative coating designed for application directly over rusted or seasoned metal surfaces. Por-15 products will dry to a super rock hard, non-porous finish that will not chip, crack, or peel, and it stops rust from re-occurring by encapsulating the metal from further exposure to moisture.
The secret lies in the POR-15 curing process. Unlike "paint", POR-15 cures by drawing moisture from the air. Paint, on the other hand, drys through the process of solvent evaporation through the pores in the paint (and that's why you can smell a paint job for weeks). Those same evaporation pores allow microscopic amounts of air and moisture to gradually reach the surface of the painted metal. As you know, if ordinary paint goes unprotected before long, rust will begin to form right through it! POR-15 doesn't use evaporation pores, which eliminates moisture and oxygen from seeping through the paint pores and reaching the bare metal surface. Thus, STOPPING RUST from reforming.
